Why your business website needs to be mobile friendly
In the world we are currently living in, there are an ever growing number of mobile internet users. Mobile internet is convenient and cheap for many users and that is why many are adopting it. It is therefore important to streamline your business website with these emerging trends.
On most occasions when people use a mobile device, they are away from home and looking for specific information quickly. If your website can’t give this to them, you may lose a customer. Despite many visitors having good browsers such as Opera Mini or Firefox Mobile, it is still important to optimise your website for mobile visitors.
It is normally quite difficult to navigate a normal website on a mobile device. However, if the website is optimised for mobile devices, the users will be able to get the information that they need easily and it might just earn you one more customer. It might be the differentiating factor between you and a very close competitor.
Mobile data in most cases is charged by the download size. So by having a mobile optimised website, there is increased download speed and reduced download size so it both renders the content to users faster and also saves mobile internet costs for clients.
By optimising your website for mobile devices, you will be able to use mobile features such as click to call and mapping services. Instead of a visitor having to write the number down to dial it later, you can set up click to call so that once the user highlights the number, using just one click he can call your business number. The user can also get a map to your business location easily using mapping services.
Mobile friendly search engines such as Google and Yahoo are able to detect mobile versions of website. When you have a mobile friendly website, the website is ranked higher due to having the mobile version. Thus people searching for a keyword that your website is listed in will be able to find your business easier.
Lastly, having a mobile device will help your business stand out from the crowd. It will give your business an edge above the rest and increase the impact that your website and website marketing campaign has in bringing new business.

Hi mate, again I agree personally I’m always trying to search for things on the run using my iphone.
Being working on getting my site more ‘mobile friendly’.
We are looking to do just that as we are integrating QR codes into our advertising. Which service do you recommend?
What do you think about having a seperate .mobi domain which is totally optimised versus a “mobile” version of the existing website?
I use qrstuff.com to generate the QR codes and Google Analytics to track their performance. Both services are free and give you all the information you need.
One advantage of a .mobi domain is that you can shorten it so it is optimised for mobile users who will have to type the address in (eg. thebestphysiotherapywebsite.com could become bestphysioweb.mobi), but if you are planning for your desktop website to simply redirect all mobile users, then I would stick with a sub domain like m.yourwebsite.com. It won’t cost you anything and you maintain your branding. I’ve also heard that Google prefers this structure, but I haven’t seen any hard evidence to back it up.
